Welcome to the Spanky Fractal Database

This is a collection of fractals and fractal related material for free distribution on the net.   Most of the software was gathered from various ftp sites on the internet and it is generally freeware or shareware.   Please abide by the guidelines set down in the individual packages.   I would also like to make a disclaimer here.   This page points to an enormous amount of information and no single person has the time to thoroughly check it all.   I have tested software when I had the resources, and read through papers when I had the time, but other than certifying that it is related to fractals I can't assume any other responsibility.   Thanks to everyone who has contacted me, pointing out new and interesting fractal material.   I try to respond to everyone but sometimes things just get too hectic or I get too disorganized.   I also appreciate all your comments and criticisms, but please understand that it is impossible for me to impliment everything or reply to all.

I also point to a great deal of material that is not at this site.   Consequently I have no control of when this information or service is removed or am I notified if the URL becomes invalid.   I try to check my indexes periodically to see what is still valid, but it is not an automated process.   If you find URL's that I point to have become outdated and constantly fail to respond on your attempts to load them, (over several days) then please inform me of this problem and I will remove them from my lists.

Mirrors of Spanky Fractal Database

The old, original site for this fractal database was at spanky.triumf.ca and it was mirrored at spanky.fractint.org .   This version was a copy of the original but has been updated and corrected.

New PNG image format used

I have also converted 98% of all the images at this sight to the newer (and free) PNG format.   If your web browser is having problems displaying them, it may mean you have to update/upgrade your browser.   I apologise for any inconvenience, but the issue is being forced by the stance that Unisys has chosen in regard to LZW patent issues and the use of GIF images on Web servers.   The small percentage of remaining GIF images probably use transparency and are kept to utilize that capability.   As they were created/modified with licensed software, I don't see this as a problem.   However, in the spirit of open source, when all web browsers get their act together and support PNG transparency properly, I will replace these last few GIF images as well.
